Styrel structures its product roadmap: industrial computing for clients

A subsidiary of the Ametra Group, Styrel has been supporting manufacturers for over forty years in the development and manufacturing of their systems, by combining software expertise and test equipment design.

In line with this DNA combining engineering and industry, Styrel initiated a process in 2025 to structure its offering around a product roadmap.

The objective is not to announce a technological breakthrough or claim to invent a new market, but to propose a pragmatic product approach, directly derived from field experience, serving the industrial uses of its clients.

Structuring a product approach in a mature industrial market

The industrial context is characterized by strong competition, high expectations in terms of technicality and deadlines, as well as constant cost pressure.

In this context, an exclusively custom-made approach sometimes shows its limitations. Teams find themselves re-developing similar components, supply cycles lengthen, and study phases are repeated from one project to another.

Styrel’s product roadmap provides a concrete answer to this situation. It draws on several decades of projects carried out with demanding manufacturers to formalize proven solutions and structure an offering capable of effectively meeting a wide range of needs.

For clients, the objective is clear: to have high-performance solutions, available more quickly and with better cost control.

For the teams, this approach allows for valuing internal expertise and developing technical products designed to last.

A clear philosophy: modularity, reusability, and openness

The approach is based on the design of modular, adaptable, and reusable industrial technological building blocks for numerous contexts.

Rather than starting from scratch with each project, Styrel has chosen to structure a common product base, enriched with options and adaptations according to specific needs.

This positioning allows for regaining control over supply cycles, reducing lead times upstream of projects, and securing industrial schedules, while maintaining the flexibility expected in complex technical environments.

The first foundation of the roadmap: the PDU

The first product realized in this roadmap, the single-phase PDU (Power Distribution Unit), is a central element of the test benches developed by Styrel.

It performs three essential functions: power supply, energy distribution, and electrical safety. Styrel has integrated a structuring functional evolution into it, with the addition of an embedded PLC. This allows for programming the PDU’s operation and adapting it to specific client constraints, particularly through remote control options.

This product was born from a very concrete need. Market solutions previously imposed supply lead times of 14 to 15 weeks, which directly impacted project cycles.

By developing its own PDU, Styrel has reduced these lead times to 4 to 6 weeks and offers a significantly more cost-competitive solution.

Already commercialized, this first milestone illustrates the roadmap’s logic: operational efficiency, industrial control, and use value.

A roadmap built on industrial uses

Following this foundation, the product roadmap unfolds progressively and coherently.

The three-phase PDU is a variation of the single-phase PDU. It is designed to meet higher power requirements in certain industrial environments.

Styrel is also structuring a catalog of industrial PCs, the true “brains” of test systems. These devices are used in various applications, whether for test benches, scientific computing, or industrial data processing.

The ambition is to offer proven configurations that strike a good balance between performance and cost, with off-the-shelf availability.

Finally, the roadmap includes benches and cases, the two most common formats encountered in the field. The rack meets the needs of fixed and powerful environments. The more compact case is suitable for mobile, embedded, or constrained contexts.

These solutions have been designed to cover approximately 80% of market needs, while maintaining sufficient modularity to adapt to specific requirements.

Open solutions, compatible with industrial standards

The approach is also based on a deliberate choice of open solutions, compatible with industrial standards.

Styrel products are designed to work with widely used hardware and software environments, such as National Instruments, Wago, or Arduino. The software components are based on recognized, modifiable, and scalable technologies, to avoid vendor lock-in.

When project constraints require it, particularly in sensitive sectors, certain functionalities can, of course, be locked. This adaptation is done without compromising the overall architecture of the solutions.

Reduce lead times without sacrificing customization

The availability of off-the-shelf products does not mean rigid standardization. The logic is based on modular sub-assemblies that allow for a high level of customization, while significantly shortening lead times upstream of projects.

The priority remains unchanged: reduce lead times first, then work on cost optimization when relevant.

A proven approach with major industrial players

This roadmap is based on solid experience gained with major industrial players. Groups such as Safran, MBDA, ArianeGroup, MaiaSpace, Alstom, SNCF, EDF, and Framatome already trust Styrel for the development of their test systems in the aerospace, space, railway, and energy sectors.

Extending the engineering DNA through product structuring

With this product roadmap, Styrel does not abandon its historical approach. It structures and clarifies it. By formalizing field-derived products, designed to last and evolve, the company strengthens its ability to support its clients more quickly and robustly, while remaining true to the industrial rigor that characterizes the Ametra Group.
